Called to order at

Present: Scott, Biff, Gregg, Erica, Sara, Lisa, Donna, Kim, (Natasha, Jenny Chalupka, Bonnie, MaryAnn, Margaret, Linda, Jean)

 Agenda:

 Minutes from January 10th – Gregg moved to accept, Erica seconded

 Financial Report – Balance as of 2/28/09 $51,930.95

Sara moved to accept, Biff seconded

 Fundraising 

  • Reports on Past Fundraisers

Entertainment Books Update – Total earnings $332.00, but is probably more than that because some people sell them for over the price.

 Tastefully Simple – Summer/Fall/Winter Fundraiser profit $36.50

 Change for Charity – Not selected this year.

 Boston Store Community Event Day – about $300 profit.

  • Current/Ongoing Fundraisers

 We Care $56.72

 Good Search/Good Shop Future Fundraisers $7.62

 Candy Bars-$250.00 for candy bars, $64.00 tax and shipping that Lisa donated.  So, $25/box for us, 50 candy bars per box, $1/bar.  We had a discussion about whether or not we want to get more boxes next time.  We are waiting to see how the selling of these candy bars goes.

 Kringle fundraiser - Selling now through March 29th.  Get information from Linda and Scott.

  • Future Fundraising Opportunities

 Gift Bricks – year-round fundraiser, talk to Kevin about putting in the bricks, Donna talking to her brother about installing, also, Gregg will take on the financial part of it, Biff is looking into pricing and specific companies.  Kim checking with Tom about specifics at Wawbeek. 

 Year Round Raffle – waiting to talk about it until Josette is feeling better.

 WALH Calendars – Calendars through VistaPrint, under $4.00 each, sell mostly to camp people, but we could also use them as gifts to donors.  Kim is willing to put the calendars together.  Donna moves to purchase calendars for sale, Lisa seconds.  Motion approves.  Want to order 50, and then we can get more later if we want.  People submit pictures to Kim if they have them. 

 Adopt a Camper – more of a sponsorship, way of getting donors.  Kim is making a list of costs associated with camp, selling them at the dance, as well as year-round on the website.

 Stone Creek Coffee Sale – Sara will look into selling Stone Creek Coffee sale.

 Foundations – need a donor forum application that we are going to try to work on filling one out so we can use it for some of the foundation requests.  Gregg and Lisa are working on this project and will let the board know if they need help.

  • Summer Splash Committee Report

 Date is Saturday, June 6th at Serb Hall.  $50.00/ticket $90/couple, including buffet, two hour cocktail hour with unlimited wine, beer, soda, $12.63/over 21 and $25.15/under 21.  Kim will have info table.  We will be having a silent auction.  We will have the band Live Radio.  Geri is going to hopefully have samples and Tastefully Simple party, also making a basket for our silent auction.  Corey is going to DJ the cocktail hour and do quiet music.  Cocktail 5-6, dinner 6-7:30, cocktails again 7-8, band 8:30 to 11:00.   Donna printing tickets within the week.  Send an update to Scott for the newsletter.  50/50 raffle, Gregg getting raffle license.  Donna’s family friend is going to donate a cake for us for dessert. Brian Calhoun will be the as the MC.  If anyone gets any donations, give to Donna and Lisa.  

 Next Spring Dance Committee Meeting: before the next board meeting.

  • Recruitment
    • Volunteers

 Northwest Mutual – will volunteer locally, but will not send people to the Dells.  Usually do up to an 8 hour period.  They pay their employees to volunteer.  They will help us to set up the dance.

Student Nurse Association Meetings – meetings set up at Concordia, looking at MU and UWM as well.  Biff is going next Thursday with Kim at 11:30 am to Concordia.

Teacher’s Union – Scott is making up blurbs for newsletters, so they can put them in their teacher’s union newsletters to see if people want to volunteer.

 Fliers to Post (Churches, offices, etc…) – Kim is making a flyer to post in random areas to advertise volunteers. 

 Idea of doing half weeks was brought up, we need to check with Tom about feasibility, and would need to deal with this on a case-by-case basis.

 o       Campers

 Erica has seven new male campers, at least one new female.  Only one or two of the guys have their own volunteer coming, so we need more young male volunteers.

 Sam K. is writing a letter to all of the volunteers at MDA to tell them about her experiences at WALH

 MDA Support Group May 20th at 6pm at Froedhert.  Need a representative to go represent the group and talk about camp.

 MDA postcard/mailing & Newsletter – Scott wrote a blurb that Erica is giving to Robin to put in the newsletter.

 QUEST article – Biff is waiting to hear back from them, is going to try again.

 MDA Booth at Walk with the Animals – We have to form a team, and our team has to raise, $500 in order to have the booth.  There is a walk in Milwaukee and Madison.  We are going to participate in the one in Milwaukee this year.  May 16, 2009.

 MDA camp visit – We are welcome to come visit the first day of camp this year, and camp is ending a day early this year, so we could come at one of the meals on Thursday or Friday and set up a table and they would make an announcement.  Camp runs from June 14-19.

 Morning Blend – Erica e-mailed, and she haven’t heard back

 Independence First – Ginger (head of PAS dept.) asked Crystal to do an info session about WALH at the nurses’ meeting for about 15 nurses.

 Facebook group made

  • New Brochure – Jenny Chalupka put together a new brochure.

 Lisa moves to get Jenny to look at making new logo, Gregg seconded, motion passes. 

  • Summer Camp 2009 –WALH County Fair

 August 2nd – August 7th (training and set-upon August 1st)

 o       Program Ideas

 Eating contest – Yes we want to do it, Biff and Kevin will be in charge of it.

 Dairy Prince/princess Contest – Yes we want to do that, Kim getting a sash and is going to

 Square Dance – Maryann has a contact for lessons.   She is going to check with her contact about doing lessons in the afternoons. 

 Sara and Erica will decorate

 Josette will line up the DJ

 Crowning of Dairy prince/princess at the dance.

 Tractor/Wheelchair pull – Gregg is thinking about what he can do.

 Bake sale/cooking contest (With Tastefully Simple) – advertise in flyer, Geri could be in charge.

 Arts/Craft exhibition – Bonnie

 Animals – Petting zoo

 Special Shows (comedy, jugglers, etc…) – Baraboo circus road museum?  Josette please check into this.  Kim checking on comedy acts.

 Carnival day (games like basketball, beanbag toss and win prizes) – Kim is working on it, Erica and Sara are helping. 

 Biff looking into getting a Native American tribe to come in to give a tutorial

 Lisa working on Wheelchair power-soccer. 

 Grand Ole Oprey lip-sync contest – Gregg is in charge of it

 o       Theme day ideas:

 Country/ Western singer day – lip-sync (Grand Ole Oprey)

 Dress like a farmer – on the square dance day

 Dress like your favorite animal

 Scare-crow

 Dairy Prince/Princess dress up day

 Kim getting prizes for theme day.

 o       T-shirt sponsors – Sara has to check about this. 

 o       Nurses – Crystal Hince would be happy to come.

 o       Camp Photographer – Erica found a professional for group picture.  Want to see if we can get some extra pictures, with people being taken care of.

 o       Online Application – Looking at changing application next meeting.

 o       Newsletter – Scott is sending it out in the next two weeks.  Please send him anything you want in there, ASAP!

 o       WALH Mailing List – Who should be keeper of the “master list”?  Gregg is the keeper of the list.

 o       Bucks Community Relations Nights
